TECHNICAL CHALLENGES VS ADAPTIVE CHALLENGES
Technical Problems:
- Solutions are known and can be implemented through existing expertise and procedures
- The problem and solution are well-defined
- Require individual or small group effort to implement the solution
- Involve fixing, improving, or replacing existing systems or processes
- Focus is on the technical/operational aspects
Adaptive Challenges:
- No clear solutions exist, requiring stakeholders to change priorities, beliefs, habits, and loyalties
- The problem and solution are not well-defined, they emerge through the process
- Require the involvement and collective learning of many stakeholders
- Involve changing organizational culture, values, and norms
- Focus is on changing people's mindsets and behaviors
